Ed Dietrich knows a lot about restoring old things. For the last few years he has been absorbed with restoring the 100-year-old Butler House in Deerfield Beach to its original condition.
Simultaneously, he took on the 119-year-old Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, potentially a $1.76 million repair and replace project that could take him well into his old age.

Head up to the tip of Old Mission Peninsula and treat yourself to a walk in front of the Mission Point Lighthouse, and you might just be amazed.

Lighthouse Lighting Saturday in Montauk, NY
The annual Lighting of the Lighthouse, involving thousands of lights, happens on Saturday from 4 to 7:30 pm.
Fred W. Thiele Jr., a former state assemblyman, will be honored for his long government service, and Sarah Conway and the Playful Souls will lead a singalong of holiday tunes as those attending await the lighting.

Woman lives for almost two years in the remote East Brother lighthouse, CA, without paying rent & endures two months in the dark
The daily routine on one of the most remote islands in San Francisco Bay exposed technical difficulties, structural flaws, and emergency decisions that marked the management of a lighthouse built in 1873.
East Brother Light Station, built in 1873, remains in continuous operation and has been on the list of US historical landmarks since 1971.

Saugerties Lighthouse, NY, freshly renovated and ready for visitors
One of the most delightful short hikes in the Hudson Valley - the half-mile nature trail out to the Saugerties Lighthouse through the Ruth Reynolds Glunt Nature Preserve - remains an undiscovered gem to many.
That's because it wasn't until the 1990s that volunteers from the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy built the boardwalks and bridges that make the historic Hudson River beacon accessible on foot.
