Climb the Anclote Key (FL) lighthouse, a Gulf Coast landmark with more than a century of history

What debuted in the late 1800s as a shining beacon of light, then eventually fell into disrepair, is now back in restored condition and open for visitors to climb 127 steps to the top.

The Anclote Key lighthouse is a national historic landmark situated a few miles west of Tarpon Springs along Florida's Gulf Coast. Although the lighthouse was battered by Hurricane Idalia, which tore through the Big Bend region of the state in late August, it recently received an $800,000 facelift, including a fresh coat of paint inside and out.

Officials: Missing boater rescued at Stratford Point (CT) Lighthouse

A missing boater and his boat was found Friday morning after they went missing near Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven

Deputies arrest burglary suspect at Pigeon Point (CA) Lighthouse, partner flees

A man was taken into custody and another suspect is at large after deputies responded to a burglary report at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse on Highway 1 just south of Pescardero, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said Sunday.

On Saturday around 4:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the lighthouse on a report of a vehicle burglary.

Bureau of Land Management Complete Restoration of 114-Year-Old Punta Gorda (CA) Light Station

The Bureau of Land Management has completed restoration of the 114-year-old Punta Gorda Light Station overlooking the Pacific Coast along the Lost Coast Trail of south Eureka. The Rehabilitation project was partially funded by $2.8 million received through the Great American Outdoors Act.

In addition to restoring the scenic quality of the two-story lighthouse and adjacent oil house, renovations included repairing railings and replacing a spiral stairway leading to the lighthouse lantern room and deck.

Shining Bright: New Light at Sankaty, MA

Sally Snowman, the Last Lighthouse Keeper in the U.S. Retires

After two decades, the last U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse keeper bids adieu to her beloved position. Sally Snowman has been the keeper at Boston Light since 3004, when she was the first ever woman to take up the position at this historic lighthouse on Little Brewster Island.

As soon as the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve, it will mark the end of an era as Sally Snowman, devoted keeper of Boston Light, says farewell to her role as the last Coast Guard lighthouse keeper in the United States. Her retirement at the age of 72 brings a close to a remarkable chapter in maritime history.
