A nonprofit pledged to restore the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse, WI. What happened?
The Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse, which has dotted the city's landscape since 1926, has been empty since 1966. And despite a local nonprofit's promises to restore the historical landmark in 2013, it remains untouched and inaccessible.
Brookfield-based nonprofit Optima Enrichment acquired the lighthouse for free from the National Park Service in 2013, promising $2.5 million worth of major restorations in hopes to create a publicly accessible museum by 2015. Now, almost ten years later, not much has changed.

Sleeping with Ghosts at Heceta Head (OR) Lighthouse's Haunted B&B
The flashing smile of a lighthouse flickers across tar-black water. Every 10 seconds it blinks, each spark illuminating a window at the keeper's house where a woman seems to pace. Her feet never quite touch the floor.
They call her Rue, a name pulled from a Ouija board by a group of Lane Community College students decades ago. She's the resident ghost at Heceta Head Lighthouse, completed in 1894 and among the most picturesque on the Oregon Coast.

Stay the night at the historic Browns Point (WA) Lighthouse
In the late 1800s, Tacoma's waterfront is booming thanks to timber and the city's growing population.
"When Tacoma began to become more and more of a shipping center they needed a lighthouse to direct ships into the port," said Jim Harnish with Points Northeast Historical Society. "They built a permanent lighthouse in 1903, it was a wood lighthouse with a kerosene lantern. The first lighthouse keeper came in 1903, Oscar Brown and his wife, Annie. They were here by themselves with no roads, no electricity, no water until 1921. So it was a very difficult life."
