Tybee Lighthouse (GA) Lens Shatters Shortly After Restoration; Still Safe To Climb

Just under a month after the restoration and preservation of the Tybee Lighthouse was completed, a prism has shattered.

According to Tybee Island Historical Society Director Sarah Jones, part of the original 1867 first order Fresnel lens that had been previously cracked years ago, fell and shattered over the weekend.

Helicopter Pilot Intercepts Boat Speeding Toward Alligator Lighthouse (FL) Swimmers

Quick thinking by a Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) helicopter pilot is credited with preventing tragedy in Islamorada.

On Sept. 7, officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and FWC observed a center console vessel navigating toward an area where hundreds of swimmers were competing in a charity swim to benefit the Alligator Reef Lighthouse.

Historic East Point Lighthouse (NJ) Forced To Close After Deadline Passes

New Jersey's second-oldest lighthouse has been closed after a lease agreement between a historical society and the state Department of Environmental Protection expired on Friday.

Over the weekend, volunteers used trucks and their personal vehicles to help haul furniture from the East Point Lighthouse at the Delaware Bay's shoreline in Cumberland County, Nancy Patterson, president of the Maurice River Historical Society, said.

Lantern Reglazing Delays St. Marys (UK) Lighthouse Reopening

The reopening of a lighthouse has been pushed back by about a month while several panes of curved glass on its lantern are replaced.

North Tyneside Council announced earlier this week that Whitley Bay's St Mary's Lighthouse will remain closed until mid-October while the repairs take place.

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse (Bermuda) Light Repaired

The light at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is repaired.

A member of staff said the light at the Southampton landmark, which stopped rotating in February due to a mechanical malfunction in its engine, was relit on Sunday.

Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society (NY) Brings Music & Light To The Town's Shores

Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society held its 15th annual Music Fest on Saturday, August 31. The event takes place each year between Huntington Bay and Lloyd Harbor and brings together lovers of the sea and lovers of rock 'n' roll.

In 1985 the lighthouse was scheduled for demolition, but the nonprofit HLPS took it over and has worked to preserve and restore it ever since.

Puerta Plata (D.R.) Iron Lighthouse Faces Urgent Restoration Needs

The Puerto Plata Iron Lighthouse, the oldest in the Dominican Republic, is facing imminent risk of extinction due to severe deterioration and a lack of decisive action for its preservation.

Built 145 years ago by Robert Hills and Brothers at the request of provisional President Gregorio Luperon, the lighthouse was constructed under the supervision of American engineer Allan Howard Grossverg with iron columns imported from England.

I Stayed At The Frying Pan Shoals Lighthouse (NC) In The Middle Of The Ocean. So Can You.

Don't worry about the sharks. They're large, yes, but they're sand-tigers, which are relatively docile compared to other species in the water. It's the barracudas you might consider.

Restoration efforts in Bristol to fix one of Maine's most familiar historic buildings are complete.
