Two sisters kept LA's Point Fermin Lighthouse beaming - 150 years ago

When sisters Mary and Ella Smith arrived at Point Fermin in 1874 in what is now San Pedro, they found a new lighthouse in a remote wilderness.

Mystery of haunted Point of Ayr Lighthouse off the Welsh coastline

People and Places: Cape St. Paul (Ghana) Lighthouse

Built by the Dutch in 1901, the St Paul's Lighthouse is believed to be one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. Its distinctive design sets it apart from the six lighthouses along the coast from Keta to Azim in the Western Region.

The 34-metre (112ft) structure features an octagonal iron skeletal tower, with the upper quarter encased in a metal plate and topped with a gallery and lantern.

Lighthouse fan raised £50,000 for Gurkhas

A man who walked 9,000 miles while visiting lighthouses around Britain's coastline has hit his £50,000 fundraising target, which will fund three earthquake-proof homes in Nepal for Gurkha families.
