Bodie Island Lighthouse, NC, set to reopen for summer climbing season
The Bodie Island Lighthouse is preparing to reopen to climbers just in time for warmer weather and later sunsets.

The lighthouse will be open for climbing from April 18 to October 13.

Corrosion could delay restoration of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, NC
Crews found "significant corrosion and cracking" while doing masonry work on the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse last week, potentially leading to a major delay in the overall restoration project.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Restoration Project was initiated by the National Park Service to repair "masonry, metal components, windows, marble flooring, and the lantern."

'Irreplaceable icons:" 2 Northern Michigan lighthouses plan restoration with state grants
Two iconic sentinels standing on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior will soon see renewed restoration efforts.

The Charlvoix South Pier Lighthouse, on Lake Michigan, and Gull Rock Lighthouse, on Lake Superior were awarded a combined $106,000 in Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program matching grants, the state announced.

Two Harbors' (MN) historic 1892 lighthouse to shine again this summer
When Soudan Iron started rolling into the Two Harbors docks in the 1880s, it was decided that the ore boats leaving Agate Bay needed an ATON or aid to navigation.

"The shipping people decided they needed a lighthouse and they put one together for $10,000, I think," said Marty Anderson of the Lake County Historical Society.

Calvert Marine Museum Marks 50th Anniversary Of Drum Point, MD, Lighthouse Relocation
The Calvert Marine Museum is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Drum Point Lighthouse's relocation to its current home.

Originally built in 1883 at the mouth of the Patuxent River, the screwpile lighthouse guided mariners for nearly 80 years until its decommissioning in 1962.

The Capel Rosso Tuscan lighthouse is now an island retreat for solitude-seekers
This unique retreat - a converted lighthouse on the southernmost tip of Giglio island - comes with its own helipad. But for your average traveller, making pilgrimage to its remote setting is integral to its charm.

Travel out to the Tuscan isthmus of Argentario for the ferry from Porto Santo Stefano, an hour across the turquoise Tyrrhenian to arrive in Giglio Port.

Near Boston, this is the oldest lighthouse in the USA - and you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Boston Harbor from the top
On Little Brewster Island in Massachusetts Bay, Boston Light remains the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States, a landmark steeped in maritime history and a defining feature of the Massachusetts coastline.

Established in 1716, the original structure was erected to guide ships navigating the onerous waters approaching Boston Harbor.
