Save The Light oyster roast supports Morris Island (SC) lighthouse preservation efforts
Preserving the Morris Island lighthouse vista while traveling to and from Folly Beach appeals to both locals and visitors. That's why the annual Save The Light oyster roast is such a popular event that helps raise money for the historic lighthouse that is the tallest in South Carolina.
This year the oyster roast will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, at Bowen's Island Restaurant, and will feature a new VIP house, where guests can sample appetizers from seven different chefs.

Right idea, wrong lighthouse: RI tourism video mixes up Watch Hill and Point Judith lights
Rhode Island has so many historic, scenic lighthouses that even state tourism struggles to keep them straight.
At least that's one possible explanation why a video posted by Rhode Island's Tourism Division on Friday recommended that visitors watch the sunset at Watch Hill Lighthouse in Westerly while actually showing picturesque drone images of Point Judith Light in Narragansett.

Watch the first sunrise of 2025 at Makapu'u Point (HI) Lighthouse
Hundreds of visitors made the trek up Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail before dawn, lining the eastern shore to watch the first glimpse of the sun.
Along the way to the summit, one family stopped to honor the first sunrise with a private Hawaiian protocol.

An Idyllic And Under-The-Radar Bahamian Island Is Home To Elbow Reef, The World's Last Hand-Cranked Lighthouse
The Islands of the Bahamas, a nation made up of more than 700 islands and 2,400 cays, are sure to have a few outstanding hidden gems. Most visitors to the country arrive on cruise ships, so their experiences are limited to Nassau, Freeport, and a handful of private islands owned by cruise lines.
Getting to the authentic Out Islands involves a real adventure, including traveling there by small plane and ferry or by useing your own boat to explore the area.

A guardian angel at the lighthouse at the end of the world (Cape Horn, Chili)
Consider Cape Horn, an imposing black coloured lonely lump of rock. 425 metres high, 12 km at the end of the world, swept by violent storms. All in all a very hostile, lonely area to work at. Welcome to the work environment of Jose Luis Luarte Sepulveda the lighthouse keeper who looks after the light at Cape Horn and keeps weather eye over the passing marine traffic.
The Vendee Globe editorial team spoke with the Chilean soldier who has been living at Cape Horn for four years with his wife, children and cat.

Holding On To History: North Pier (MN) lighthouse has weathered many storms since 1910
The concept of weather fronts was not developed until 1917 so a 1905 map of the Mataafa storm shows the potent low differently.
The storm was another example of the power of the Gales of November.
