Search for woman last seen by Menominee (MI) lighthouse expands to area near Green Bay
Police have expanded their search for a woman who was last seen near an Upper Peninsula lighthouse.

The Menominee Police Department has been trying to locate Lisa Janine Pipp since Tuesday to complete a welfare check. She is believed to have left her vehicle without her phone or jacket near the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse.

Nubble Lighthouse (ME) draw: York plans unveiled for major Sohier Park upgrades
Sohier Park could see major renovations with new benches, greenery, parking and walking paths overlooking the iconic Nubble Lighthouse.

Parks and Recreation officials are envisioning a safer, pedestrian-friendly park located on the Nubble Peninsula just a short boat ride from the lighthouse itself, the department's director Pete Murray told the town Selectboard Monday.

Portsmouth Harbor: The oldest lighthouse in NH is over 200 years old. Here's where it is
As New Hampshire's only deep water port, the Portsmouth Harbor on the Piscataqua River was an important trading port in colonial America.

The success of the port soon lead to the need for a lighthouse to guide ships into the harbor. Under this notion, the state's first lighthouse was constructed about a mile from the mouth of the Piscataqua at Fort William and Mary on Great Island - which is now the town of New Castle.

Juniper Island: The oldest lighthouse in Vermont is almost 200 years old. Here's where it is
Though Vermont is not on the New England coastline, the state is still home to various lighthouses along Lake Champlain.

The oldest lighthouse on Lake Champlain dates back to the 1820's, when the lake was an important passageway for lumber and iron ore. To guide vessels into Burlington Harbor, Juniper Island Lighthouse was built three miles offshore from Burlington's waterfront in 1826, making the tower almost 200 years old.

Amelia Island Lighthouse: Photos old and new provide special look at Florida gem
Now that Amelia Island Lighthouse beacon is back in operation after a year and a half of disrepair, some people may want to see and know more about Florida's oldest lighthouse.

Located inland on a hill overlooking Egans Creek, the lighthouse aids in navigating the inlet leading to the St. Mary's River, Cumberland Sound and the harbor of Fernandina Beach.

The River: U.S. Lighthouse Service tender GREENBRIER maintained navigation lights along inland waterways
Last week's river column featuring the U.S. Lighthouse Service Tender GOLDENROD brought an unexpected surprise.


Although the story featured the handsome steamer from 1888 through 1890, imagine my delight finding that Captain/Chief Engineer Arthur J. "Red" Schletker, my boyhood friend, co-worker, and mentor who helped me obtain my first slot working aboard a steamboat, also served on the GOLDENROD.

Death at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Bermuda
A man has died at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse in Southhampton.

Officers responded to an incident at the facility at about 12:15pm, and the hilltop area surrounding the lighthouse was cordoned off.
