Some volunteers are needed to help restore the Grand Island Channel Lighthouse in Munising.
HistoriCorps and Hiawatha National Forest are partering to help restore the lighthouse, an effort that started in the early 2000s, according to a Wednesday afternoon press release from HistoriCorps.

Fairport Harbor Lighthouse & Marine Museum, OH, to host Open Doors event
The Fairport Harbor Lighthouse & Marine Museum will be hosting an Open Doors event from 3 to 8 pm Sept. 16.
Ohio Open Doors will be sharing stories of important landmarks and Ohio's heritage from Sept. 10 to 20 throughout the state, and once again the Fairport Harbor Historical Society and the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse will be participating in this state-wide program.

Demolition of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Jetty, NC, Underway
It's arguably the most iconic surf spot on the East Coast. And as of this month, it will never be the same. Then again, it was never really the same to begin with.

New Lindau Lighthouse, Germany
Not many people, even within Bavaria - the land of the Alps and alpine pastures - know that it has a lighthouse. A glance at the map reveals that this tower is the southernmost in the entire country.
And the fact that this structure, completed in 1856, is truly extraordinary is something you should see for yourself during your visit to the island city.

From Presidents to Torpedoes: FamilyFest Opens Door To Piney Point's, MD, Past
Long before families gathered beside the Potomac River for music, food and waterfront activities, the shoreline at Piney Point welcomed lighthouse keepers, watermen, vacationing presidents and Navy personnel testing weapons during World War II.
The history will provide the backdrop for this year's FamilyFest on the Potomac, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park.

Coast Guard begins maintenace project at Diamond Head Lighthouse, HI
The Coast Guard began a long-term maintenance project at Diamond Head Lighthouse in Honolulu in early August.
The project will focus on repairing aging concrete and replacing railings, decks, ladders, windows and frames.

Point San Luis Lighthouse, CA, earns national recognition
The Point San Luis Lighthouse has been named the National Lighthouse Museum's Lighthouse of the Month for September 2026, a national honor recognizing preservation of the historical structures.
According to the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers, the Avila Beach landmark was selected from 17 nominees by the National Lighthouse Museum.

Scottish lighthouse keepers filled in bird-observation schedules in the early 20th century
Somewhere in a wooden box in Scotland sits a printed form from 1911. A lighthouse keeper filled it in by hand, noting the birds passing his lonely rock in the Pentland Firth.
He was not a scientist. He almost certainly never saw a laboratory. Yet his careful notes are still being kept, more than a century later, by a national bird body. Why?
