California's historic Point Reyes Lighthouse is looking for a residential volunteer
The National Park Service is looking for a residential volunteer to help staff the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse this fall and winter, with free housing included.
Running from Nov. 6 through Feb. 1, the assignment requires about 30 volunteer hours a week staffing the Lighthouse Visitor Center and historic lighthouse, answering questions and giving short talks about the area's natural and cultural history.

City of Biloxi, MS, extends lighthouse restoration timeline
Restoration work at the Biloxi Lighthouse will take another three to four weeks to finish.
Crews began work on the upper deck at the top of the lighthouse two weeks ago, but now the work has expanded to include restoring the catwalk outside.

A trip to the remote East Brother Lighthouse, CA, in the middle of San Francisco Bay
A few years ago, a friend sent me the link for a job listing that seemed like an absolute dream.

Thridrangar Lighthouse, Iceland, travel guide
Standing on a narrow sea stack off Iceland's southern coast, the Thridrangar Lighthouse is on e of the most remarkable lighthouses in Iceland and among the most isolated in the world.
Completed in 1939, it was built before helicopters were available, when local mountaineers from the Westman Islands climbed the steep rock using ropes and chains to construct it entirely by hand.

After years of fundraising, work may soon begin on Alligator Reef Lighthouse, FL
It's being called a turning point in a years-long local effort to restore one of the most iconic structures in the Florida Keys, the historic Alligator Reef Lighthouse.
"It really feels like we're making progress here, its' been a lot of fundraising, fundraising, fundraising for years and now we're actually to the point where we can do something to see a change," said Rob Dixon, a founder of the restoration effort and a leading voice in the fight to save Islamorada's treasured lighthouse

Annual Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival, WA, returns this weekend
Mukilteo's annual Lighthouse Festival will return this weekend with events planned at a park near the city's waterfront on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The festival, which began in 1965, will include a wide variety of events at Lighthouse Park, located at 609 Front St. in Mukilteo.

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, ME, open to public on Sept. 12
In celebration of Maine Lighthouse Day on Saturday, September 12, the historic Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse will be open to the public form 9 am to 4 pm, weather permitting.
Visitors will have a unique opportunity to step inside one of Maine's iconic maritime landmarks and experience this historic lighthouse firsthand, according to the City of Rockland, in a news release.

Lighthouse festival set for Sept. 12, 13 at Maumee Bay State Park
The 22nd Annual Toledo Lighthouse Festival- a celebration and benefit for the iconic structure that sits about five miles off shore will take place Sept. 12 and 13 near the Nature Center at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon. Festival admission and parking are free, through small donations are requested.
Dedicated May 23, 1904, the 4,000-square-foot structure sits on an artificial stone crib and includes a three-story main building, a three-story tower, an annex and a cellar.

BBC Radio 3 travels around Britain in a twelve-hour live relay of music and sound from six lighthouses
This September, BBC Radio 3 embarks on a unique twelve-hour live musical adventure. Where the Light Sings connects some of Britain's wildest coastal locations, each linked to a lighthouse, in a journey through music, storytelling and sound.
The day features live programmes from six locations around the UK's coastline: Georgia Mann at Dungeness Lighthouse, Tom Service on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, John Toal at the West Lighthouse on Rathlin Island, Shân Cothi at Stumble Head, and Kate Molleson at St Aidan's Church in Bamburgh, looking out towards Longstone Lighthouse, the Northumberland beacon forever associated with Grace Darling, as it marks its 200th anniversary.
