GSA Announces Opportunity to Preserve Iconic Boston Lighthouse, MA
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced a unique opportunity for eligible organizations to acquire, at no cost, the historic Light Station Boston, commonly known as Boston Light, on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor.
At 310 years old, Light Station Boston is the oldest continuously operating light station in the United States.

Five Finger Lighthouse, AK, Hosts The Aerial Signals Project
The Aerial Signals Project, led by Dr. Fred Sharpe and a multidisciplinary team, focuses on the "aerial acoustic ecology" of North Pacific humpback whales.
While underwater whale sounds are well-documented, this project aims to catalogue and understand the diversity of signals produced at the surface, which remain significantly less studied.

Kenosha lighthouse, WI, artist residency gives local painter unique access
The Kenosha lighthouse is an iconic symbol of Southeast Wisconsin. Usually it's closed off to the public, but a local artist is getting the chance to make the beacon her personal studio.
"I think people see the big red lighthouse as a beacon, a safe harbor," said Beth Dary.

Boliver Point Lighthouse Foundation, TX, sees brighter days ahead for 153-year-old landmark
Rising above the entrance to Galveston Bay, the black-and-white Boliver Point Lighthouse has guided sailors and immigrants safely toward the Texas coast for more than a century while remaining a familiar landmark for travelers aboard the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry.
The Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation, led by Executive Director Amy Maxwell Chase and President Mike Maxwell, has spent the past 10 years restoring the historic landmark after more than a century of hurricanes, coastal winds, humidity and even an accidental military shelling left the beacon a shadow of its former self.

2 Admit To 2025 Arson In Historic Tarrytown Lighthouse, NY, In Plea Deal
There will be a steep price to pay for teenage antics that nearly destroyed a Hudson Valley landmark.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that the two Westchester residents have pleaded guilty to intentionally setting a fire that caused more than $100,000 in damages to the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse in May 2025.

Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse, DE, is about to fall in the ocean. Can anyone move it first?
A nearly century-old lighthouse that sits three-fourths of a mile in the water off the Delaware coast needs a new home, and fast.
Advocates for the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse say if they can't find a new place to put it, it's a matter of when and not if it will fall into the ocean.

Portsmouth Harbor, NH, Opens For Tours
After two seasons of being closed to the public, Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Castle, NH, is once again welcoming visitors! The tours will be conducted by volunteers of the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. The lighthouse is located on Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor and tour participants will be escorted across the station to the lighthouse.
The 84-foot footbridge that provided access to the lighthouse was swept away in a storm in December 2022. Then, back-to-back storms in January 2024 caused severe damage to the base of the lighthouse. Repairs to the base have been carried out, and a new system of stairs provides access to the tower.
There will be one tour on Friday evenings, and three on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Tours will continue to mid-October. Advance reservations are required. Visitors will learn about the history of the light station and its keepers, dating back to 1771. There will also be the opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse for the best view on the New Hampshire Seacoast. Participants must be 42 inches tall to climb the tower.
