2024 Rhode Island and Connecticut Tour

Itinerary

Day 1 - July 20, 2024 - Saturday  - Arrive at Theodore Francis Green State Airport in Providence Rhode Island.  Transport to the hotel will be arranged for you.  Hotel is Newport Marriott and we will be there for 5 nights.

Day 2 - Juny 21, 2024 - Sunday  -  This day you will have to relax and explore the area until the Welcome Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - July 22, 2024 - Monday  -  After breakfast at the hotel we will walk to Bannister's Wharf which is 1 mile from the hotel.  We will boat a boat to view the following lighthouses:  Whale Rock (#1), Beavertail (#2), Dutch Island (#3), Plum Beach (#4), Poplar Point (#5), Warwick (#6), Nayatt Point (#7), Conimicut (#8), Newport Harbor/Goat Island (#9), Pomham Rocks (#10), Bristol Ferry (#11), Hog Island Shoal (#12), Prudence Island (#13), Ida Lewis aka Lime Rock (#14), Castle Hill (#15), Rose Island (#16) and Conanicut (#17).  This will be an all day event and lunch will be on board.  Back to the hotel in time to explore Newport some more and then on to a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 4 - July 23, 2024 - Tuesday  -  On the bus after breakfast to travel to Beavertail Lighthouse to tour and climb.  After we have had our fill of this lighthouse we will go to The Elms Mansion in Newport for a self-guided tour.  Next will be the Newport Visitors Center which is located in the Long Wharf Mall in Newport.  There you can shop and find lunch on your own.  After this stop we will go to Point Judith Lighthouse (#18) for a visit, then back to the hotel and dinner at a local restaurant that is within walking distance of the hotel.

Day 5 - July 24, 2024 - Wednesday  -  This day we will walk 1/10 of a mile to the Block Island Ferry Terminal.  We will board the ferry to Block Island and when we arrive we will go by bus to Southeast Block Island Lighthouse (#19).  You will have time to shop and purchase lunch on your own in the ferry landing area.  Next is the North Block Island Lighthouse (#20).  To get to this lighthouse you have to walk along a rocky and sandy beach for about 1/2 mile.  You can remain in town if you don't want to trek to this lighthouse.  We will board the late afternoon ferry back to the Newport and the short walk to the hotel.  Dinner will be arranged for at the hotel.

Day 6 - July 25, 2024 - Thursday - This morning we have to load our bags on the bus and then depart for a boat ride to see the following lighthouses:  Saybrook Breakwater (#21), Lynde Point (#22), New London Harbor (#23), New London Ledge (#24), Morgan Point (#25), Latimers Reef (#26), and North Dumpling (#27). Lunch will be provided for on board.  After the boat ride we will get back on the bus and go to Project Oceanography for a private tour of New London Ledge Lighthouse.  We will also be able to see Avery Point Lighthouse (#28). Back on the bus and to the Hotel in Stamford, CT for 2 nights.  We will have dinner in route to the hotel..

Day 7 - July 26, 2024 - Friday - We will have a boat ride this morning to see the following lights: Stamford Harbor (#29), Great Captain Island (#30), Sheffield Island (#31), Peck Ledge (#32), Greens Ledge (#33), Penfield Reef (#34), Fayerweather Isalnd (#35), Tongue Point (#36), Stratford Shoals (#37) and Stratford Point (#38).  Lunch will be on board.  Back to the hotel with time to explore the area.  Dinner will be at a local restaurant.

Day 8 - July 27, 2024 - Saturday - Today we head for a visit to Five Mile Point Lighthouse (#39) and Southwest Ledge Lighthouse (#40).  After this visit we will go to Mystic Seaport to see Mystic Seaport Light (#41). and have lunch on your own in this fun port.  Next will be Stonington Lighthouse (#42) and museum.  We will tour and climb this lighthouse.   Our last lighthouse of the tour will be Watch Hill Lighthouse (#42).  We will visit the musuem and fog signal building.  After this last lighthouse we will head for the hotel next to the airport in Providence Rhode Island.  Our Farewell dinner will be at this hotel.  

Day 9 - July 28, 2024 - Sunday - Departures for home.  Hotel has a shuttle service to the airport.
